*This message is being sent on behalf of Rev. Roderick A. Pearson, Executive Director of Suffolk County Office of Community Services/Youth Bureau*

Dear Community Member,

I want to introduce the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) Summer Youth Academy to our community. The Suffolk County Youth Academy is available to students between 16-18 years old who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Students are taught discipline, structure, and respect for themselves and others. The program will be held for the week beginning August 4-8, 2014 and the week beginning August 11-15, 2014 between the hours of 9:00am- 3:00pm daily. Each student will need to choose one of the two weeks to participate in.

Thanks to County Executive Steve Bellone, the Suffolk County Youth Bureau and SC PAL, scholarships will be provided to disadvantaged students in underserved communities to participate at no cost to them.  Students will receive a summer uniform consisting of a cap, shorts and a t-shirt. Lunch will be provided each day. The academy is held at the SCPD Academy on the Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) Brentwood Campus and students will have to provide their own transportation to and from the site each day. Please keep in mind that this program is for students who live in Suffolk County Police jurisdictions only.

The application and registration documents are attached. Please forward the completed documents to Rosa Leibrock of the Suffolk County Youth Bureau at 100 Veterans Memorial Highway, P.O. Box 6100, Hauppauge, NY 11788. All applications must be received by Friday, June 27, 2014.

For more information, please call the Suffolk County Youth bureau at 631-853-8270 or e-mail Rosa Leibrock at Rosa.Leibrock@SuffolkCountyNY.Gov
